OTE Apex Series – Product Description
The OTE Apex Series was developed by Dick Held, using the same design principles behind the legendary 90m javelin. Built for intermediate throwers, the Apex provides a slightly softer feel through the throw and encourages a cleaner, more technically sound release. Its construction offers greater forgiveness on imperfect attempts while helping reduce stress on the arm, making it an ideal option for athletes progressing toward elite implements.
Tip Types
Headwind (H)
A headwind version features a streamlined, narrow tip designed to cut through the wind efficiently. Because of its smaller surface area, the javelin exhibits self-correcting characteristics—helping stabilize flight and adding distance when the thrower slightly misses the point.
Ideal for: Power throwers who rely on strength and torque but may not have perfect technical precision.
Tailwind (T)
A tailwind version has a thicker, more blunted tip that increases the surface area at the front of the javelin. When the thrower hits the point correctly, it produces a long, floating flight similar to the classic “old-rules” javelins and can yield impressive distances.
Ideal for: Finesse throwers who may lack raw power but excel in technical execution.
Universal
The universal tip blends the benefits of both styles. Its streamlined profile cuts through the air while still promoting lift, and like the headwind tip, its smaller surface area provides self-correcting stability on off-axis releases.
Ideal for: Power throwers who benefit from extra forgiveness and consistent flight characteristics.
